NASA Awards SpaceX $946M Contract Modification for Crew-15, Crew-16, Crew-17

NASA announced September 18, 2026 a $946 million firm fixed-price modification to SpaceX's Commercial Crew Transportation Capability (CCtCap) contract, adding three more ISS crew rotation missions — Crew-15, Crew-16 and Crew-17 — with mission readiness dates in 2027 and 2028 and a performance period running through 2030. The award covers ground operations, launch, in-orbit support, return and recovery, cargo transport, and lifeboat capability while Dragon is docked at the station. It brings SpaceX's total CCtCap contract value to $5.92 billion across 17 flights and raises SpaceX's crew-mission count to 17. The modification fills three of six additional post-certification crew missions NASA flagged in a May 2026 notice of intent; the remaining three slots stay open for Boeing's Starliner if it achieves certification — Starliner has yet to complete an operational crew rotation mission after its 2024 crewed test-flight astronauts returned to Earth on Crew Dragon instead.
