Bloomberg: SpaceX's Nasdaq-100 Weighting Set to More Than Double at Sept 21 Rebalance
Bloomberg reported Sept 12, 2026 that SpaceX's weighting in the Nasdaq-100 is projected to more than double at the index's quarterly rebalance — rising to roughly 2.82% from about 1.28% today, per pro forma estimates cited in the report. Other desks gave different magnitudes: JPMorgan Securities put the move at 1.25% to about 2.25% (forecasting roughly $15.5 billion in net passive buying from index-tracking funds, including the $481B Invesco QQQ Trust), while TD Securities suggested the weight could climb above 3.5% under some free-float assumptions. The increase stems from post-IPO lock-up expirations that have lifted SpaceX's public float to nearly 30% of shares outstanding from under 10% at its June IPO — the stock's low initial weighting was a function of most shares being unavailable to trade, not market value. Roughly $1.7 trillion in assets track the Nasdaq-100. Portfolio adjustments are expected at the close of trading Sept 18, with new weights taking effect before trading opens Sept 21.
