Dragon COTS Demo Flight 1 — First Orbital Commercial Recovery

SpaceX launched Dragon C1 on Falcon 9's second flight. Dragon completed two Earth orbits before a successful Pacific splashdown, becoming the first commercially built and operated spacecraft recovered from orbit — a feat previously achieved only by NASA, the Soviet Union, and China.
