Japan-Philippines Reciprocal Access Agreement Enters Into Force
The Japan-Philippines Reciprocal Access Agreement formally entered into force on September 11, 2025, after diplomatic notes were exchanged on August 12. The RAA had been ratified by the Philippine Senate in December 2024. The agreement enables Japanese troops to operate on Philippine soil for the first time since WWII occupation, joint maritime patrols, and enhanced interoperability between Japan MSDF and Philippine Navy as both nations face Chinese maritime pressure.
