Al-Shabaab Announces Deal with Hawadle Clan to End Four-Year War in Hiran

Al-Shabaab said it signed an agreement with Hawadle clan elders at a meeting in Mahas, Hiran, ending a four-year conflict that began when the Hawadle rose against the group in 2022 with federal and US air support. Al-Shabaab said the clan backed implementing Islamic law in Hawadle areas. The deal follows Al-Shabaab's early-2025 offensive that retook much of the territory lost in 2022. The government has not confirmed the terms.
