Protesters Burn Turkish, Egyptian Flags in Gedo as Senator Demands Ministers Answer for Doolow Strike
Anger over the September 3-4 Doolow drone strike on Gen. Mahad Abdirahman 'Shub' spilled into the streets on Saturday, September 5, 2026, with demonstrations in Doolow and in Garbahaarrey, the administrative capital of Gedo region. Protesters burned Turkish flags — and, in Garbahaarrey, an Egyptian flag — while chanting slogans against President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud's government and accusing Ankara of intervening militarily in Somalia's internal political rift on the federal government's behalf. Doolow district commissioner Mohamed Lafey said he would 'not forgive or forget' the incident and demanded accountability. The same day, Senator Farhan Ali Hussein urged Somalia's Upper House to summon the Defense and Internal Security ministers over the strike and what he described as a pattern of unaccounted-for drone casualties nationwide, calling for a fact-finding committee to investigate drone-related incidents. The federal government maintained its denial that any external strike occurred, reiterating that the explosions stemmed from ordnance being prepared inside the targeted house.
