Somalia and China Sign Duty-Free Fishery Export Agreement

Somalia and China signed a duty-free fishery export agreement in Mogadishu — the first time Somali fishery products gained officially tariff-free access to the Chinese market — signed by Somalia's Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy Ahmed Hassan Aden and Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu. The deal is part of China's broader zero-tariff policy for 53 African countries, removing tariffs of 8-30% on qualifying imports. Somali officials described it as a step toward diversifying the economy beyond aid dependency, amid the country's deepening humanitarian funding crisis.
