Day 719: Drone-Dropped Explosives and Gunfights Leave One Dead, Five Wounded Across Escuinapa Over the Weekend
Organized crime carried out a wave of drone-delivered explosive attacks and armed confrontations across Escuinapa municipality over the weekend of July 12–13, 2026, killing one person and wounding at least five. On Saturday, July 12, Eduardo Javier (27) was wounded by shrapnel from an explosive device detonated on Boulevard Morelos in the municipal seat; hours later, armed civilians clashed near Las Torres de la CFE, close to the Mazatlán–Tepic highway. On Calle Matamoros, a drone-dropped explosive wounded a 13-year-old, Juan Pablo; in Colonia Loma Bonita, 76-year-old Dolores was struck by a stray bullet. On Monday, July 13, Jesús Alejandro (25) was shot dead outside a grocery store on Calle José María Morelos, and a gunfight near the mayor's residence on Calle Gabriel Leyva left a vehicle struck three times and an elderly woman injured. National Guard elements detained 10 people in the Francisco I. Madero neighborhood and seized 10 long guns, 44 magazines, 2,500 cartridges, two improvised explosive devices, eight tactical vests and eight ballistic plates, but the federal security cabinet acknowledged the operations "did not prevent violence from continuing its course." Escuinapa — a southern Sinaloa gateway toward Nayarit — has recorded repeated drone-explosive attacks against security forces throughout 2026.
