Day 693: Mexican Government Formally Confirms CJNG Financed and Reinforced Los Chapitos in Southern Sinaloa

During President Claudia Sheinbaum's June 16, 2026 morning press conference, Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch formally confirmed that the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) provided financial support and personnel reinforcements to a faction of Los Chapitos in southern Sinaloa during the internal cartel dispute: "En algún momento hubo algún tipo de financiamiento y de refuerzo de personal por el sur de Sinaloa." Harfuch said the strongest detected link was sustained personally by then-CJNG leader Nemesio "El Mencho" Oseguera Cervantes, and that federal authorities have no current indication the alliance continues following his death in February 2026: "No lo descartamos; a lo que me refiero es que al momento no tenemos un indicio de que continúe." This is the government's first on-record acknowledgment of the CJNG-Chapitos alliance after more than a year of previously declining to confirm reporting on it.
