Four Members of California Family Arrested for Sinaloa Cartel Fentanyl and Ghost Gun Trafficking

| Sinaloa Split

Federal authorities in Los Angeles arrested four members of the Salazar family on a 29-count federal indictment for operating a Sinaloa Cartel-linked drug and firearms trafficking ring in Lancaster and Hesperia, California. The arrested individuals were: José Luis 'Oso' Salazar-Cruz (44, Lancaster), Alfonso 'Pirate' Salazar (46, Lancaster), José Manuel 'Lil Oso' Salazar (22, Lancaster), and Jorge Humberto 'Sharky' Salazar (43, Hesperia). A fifth suspect, José Ángel López Paniagua (23, Littlerock), remained at large. The ring sourced fentanyl and methamphetamine from Sinaloa Cartel members in Tijuana and Mexicali, smuggled across the border in trailers, and also trafficked ghost guns and unregistered rifles. The conspiracy ran from February 2024 through December 2025. Three of the four arrested are described as undocumented Mexican nationals. Each faces a maximum penalty of life in federal prison. The arrests demonstrated the continued operational reach of Sinaloa Cartel distribution networks in California despite the ongoing factional civil war in Culiacán.
