7.4–7.5 magnitude earthquake strikes Chocó, over 300 dead
A major earthquake struck Colombia's Chocó department on 10 August 2026, killing at least 312 people, injuring more than 4,600, and leaving hundreds missing, with damage extending to Cali, Pereira, Quibdó, Manizales and Armenia. The disaster struck days into De la Espriella's presidency and became the backdrop for an expanded US security and assistance offer.
