Sheinbaum Criticizes Jalisco Protest Repression, Says USMCA Not Being Terminated as Simón Nears Sinaloa

|Sheinbaum (2024–)

At her Oct 12 conference Sheinbaum said she disagrees with the repression of Sunday's protests over contaminated water in Jalisco and asked the state government to clarify detentions; she said Mexico will not back any proposal that privatizes water. Responding to Trump's remarks, she said USMCA is not being terminated because all three legislatures approved it. The SMN said Hurricane Simón (category 3) was expected to weaken and make landfall near Mazatlán, Sinaloa around Oct 15; one death was reported in Guerrero. She also defended the 'Ley Antimemes' as targeting only fraudulent use of government logos, and Profeco reported 87.4% of stations selling diesel below 27 pesos per liter.
