Day 687 — Federal Operation Against CJNG's "Tío Lako" Cell Sparks Michoacán Narco-Blockades
On August 19, 2026 (Day 687, Wednesday), President Sheinbaum confirmed at her mañanera an active federal operation to detain "one or several priority objectives" in Michoacán, with the Security Cabinet to brief details later that day. Army-led raids in Tanhuato and Ecuandureo targeted a CJNG cell run by regional plaza boss Heraclio Guerrero Martínez, alias "Tío Lako"; he evaded capture, but 9 people were detained, including his daughter Marisol "N" and partner Lourdes "N." The operation triggered more than 20 narco-blockades and vehicle burnings on highways across Zamora, La Piedad, Ecuandureo, Zacapu, Chilchota and Tangancícuaro, and an armed clash left a preliminary 5 civilians dead. Officials tied the crackdown to Tío Lako's alleged orders to attack National Guard troops after the February 22, 2026 SEDENA operation in Tapalpa, Jalisco that killed CJNG leader Rubén "El Mencho" Oseguera Cervantes and Tío Lako's own son, Rubén "El R1" Guerrero Valadez.
