Sheinbaum Confirms Interpol Red Notice for Former Michoacán Governor Silvano Aureoles
President Sheinbaum confirmed at her April 10 mañanera that former Michoacán Governor Silvano Aureoles (PRI, 2015–2021) has been placed on Interpol's red notice list, making him subject to detention in all 196 Interpol member countries. The FGR (Attorney General) issued federal arrest warrants for Aureoles on charges including embezzlement, fraud, operations with illicit proceeds, and criminal association — with an estimated loss of 3.6 billion pesos from the construction and rental of police barracks during his administration. Michoacán state prosecutors also issued warrants for alleged qualified homicide, abuse of authority, and torture related to a 2017 incident in the Arantepacua community of Nahuatzen. Sheinbaum stated that Aureoles was spotted at Jalisco Airport before disappearing, and that prosecutors believe he fled Mexico with assistance from the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG). Several officials from his administration — including former Finance Secretary Carlos Maldonado and former Public Security Secretary Antonio Bustamante — have already been arrested. Sheinbaum framed the case as an example of the administration's 'zero tolerance for corruption' under the Fourth Transformation.
