Steel Across America Tour Brings WTC Steel Beam to Los Angeles Ahead of 25th Anniversary
The Tunnel to Towers Foundation's 'Steel Across America' tour — carrying a 16,000-pound steel beam recovered from the World Trade Center — stopped at the Frank Hotchkin Memorial Training Center in Los Angeles. Retired FDNY firefighter John LaBarbera thanked Los Angeles first responders for their mutual support, both those who traveled to Ground Zero during the 2001 rescue and recovery effort and those from New York who assisted during Southern California's January 2025 wildfires. The tour launched in lower Manhattan in May 2026 and is traveling more than 10,500 miles across 21 states and Washington, D.C., with over 35 stops, before returning to Ground Zero for the 25th anniversary commemoration on September 11, 2026.
