9/11 Victim Compensation Fund Permanently Reauthorized

President Trump signs the Never Forget the Heroes: James Zadroga, Ray Pfeifer, and Luis Alvarez Permanent Authorization of the September 11th Victim Compensation Fund Act, permanently funding the VCF through 2092. The legislation passes after first responders including comedian Jon Stewart, firefighter Ray Pfeifer (who died in 2017), and Marine Luis Alvarez (who died in 2019) made impassioned appeals to Congress. By March 2026, the VCF has awarded over $10.2 billion to more than 52,000 claimants.
