9/11 Commission Officially Established
The National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States (the '9/11 Commission') is established by Congress and signed into law by President Bush, following sustained pressure from victims' families. Former New Jersey Governor Thomas Kean is named chair and former Representative Lee Hamilton vice-chair. The Commission is charged with a full and complete account of the circumstances surrounding the September 11 attacks.
