Boko Haram Kidnaps 7 Chadian Nationals in Niger, Kills One
Boko Haram fighters abducted seven Chadian nationals in Niger's border region, killing one of the hostages. The Chadian government confirmed the kidnappings and the death of one national. Among the hostages was a physician, with Boko Haram reportedly demanding ransoms of up to 500 million CFA francs (approximately $900,000 USD) per surviving hostage. The incident underscores the continuing threat from Boko Haram and its ISWAP splinter in the Lake Chad Basin region — a secondary but persistent front in the broader Sahel insurgency. Boko Haram's reach into Niger reflects the group's sustained capacity to operate across Diffa Region and the Niger-Chad border zone despite years of multinational counter-terrorism pressure by the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF). Chad's security services were engaged in negotiations for the hostages' release.
