JNIM Assassinates Youth Organization Leader in Tonka, Timbuktu Region
Armed JNIM fighters on motorcycles shot and killed Amadou Baby (known as 'Marco'), deputy president of a local youth association, outside his store in Tonka municipality, Timbuktu Region, at approximately 8:00 PM local time. JNIM accused the organization of collaborating with military forces and facilitating arrests of JNIM fighters. Several other association members had fled the area following prior JNIM threats; Baby remained despite warnings. The targeted killing follows JNIM's documented pattern of eliminating civil society leaders perceived as pro-government in northern Mali's Timbuktu and Gao regions. Such assassinations serve both to punish actual or alleged collaboration and to coerce the civilian population into non-cooperation with state security forces.
