First Mali Coup — CNSP Ousts President IBK After Mass Protests

After months of protests (M5-RFP movement) over corruption, mismanagement, and security failures, the military's National Committee for the Salvation of the People (CNSP), led by Colonel Assimi Goïta, seizes power. IBK is arrested and resigns on television before going into exile. ECOWAS imposes economic sanctions. A transitional civilian government is eventually formed under Bah Ndaw.
