ActionAid, Partners Launch Mangrove Restoration Project in Ada West, Ghana

ActionAid Ghana, together with Habitat for Humanity International, UN-Habitat, and the University of Twente, launched a mangrove restoration project in the Wokumagbe and Goi communities of Ada West District on July 30, 2026 — timed to coincide with the International Day for the Conservation of the Mangrove Ecosystem (World Mangrove Day). The project will restore 38 hectares of degraded mangrove ecosystem through planting of approximately 95,000 seedlings, forming part of the wider Improved Resilience of Coastal Communities in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana (IRCC) Project's national target of rehabilitating 410 hectares, funded by the Adaptation Fund with technical support from Ghana's Forestry Commission. An ActionAid programme lead said mangroves 'protect our coastlines, preserve biodiversity and sustain the livelihoods of coastal communities.' The launch follows a similar IRCC-funded mangrove restoration project ActionAid and partners began at Dzita in the Anloga District in early July 2026.
