Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Launches Monsoon Campaign to Plant 2 Million Saplings

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's provincial government launched a province-wide monsoon tree plantation campaign, announced July 16, 2026, targeting 2 million saplings this season plus a further 1.4 million during a special Independence Day drive on August 14 — a combined 3.4 million saplings. Provincial Information Minister Shafi Jan said the Peshawar Revitalisation Plan alone will plant 540,000 saplings across 10,000 kanals at Spin Khak, alongside 20 new Miyawaki micro-forests citywide, 40,000 fruit-bearing saplings at schools and government buildings, and 20,000 olive trees. The province, which holds nearly 45% of Pakistan's total forest cover, allocated Rs1 billion for forestry initiatives in its provincial budget. The campaign builds on KP's Billion Tree Tsunami legacy (2014–2017), independently verified by IUCN as one of the few large-scale reforestation programs with confirmed survival rates above 80%.
