FIFA Launches Tree Planting Initiative Across All 16 World Cup 2026 Host Cities on Earth Day
FIFA announced on Earth Day 2026 (April 22) that it is supporting reforestation and community tree-planting projects in all 16 FIFA World Cup 2026 host cities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, in partnership with the Arbor Day Foundation. Since launching the initiative in 2025, over 250,000 trees have been planted through 19 forest projects and 20 community planting events with 24 local partners, projected to span over 2,000 acres of urban and peri-urban land. The initiative addresses regional restoration needs including disaster recovery, landscape restoration, biodiversity enhancement, and watershed resilience. Upcoming World Cup city planting events include Seattle (April 24), Philadelphia (April 27), Boston (May 1), NY/NJ (May 12), and Toronto (May 30). The initiative is one of the largest sports-institution-backed urban reforestation drives in North American history and reflects a growing integration of major international events with ecological restoration commitments.
