Earth Day 2026: 'Our Power, Our Planet' — 10,000+ Global Events Mark Reforestation Push
Earth Day 2026, themed 'Our Power, Our Planet,' is prompting the largest coordinated global tree-planting mobilization in years, with more than 10,000 events organized through EARTHDAY.ORG across six continents. Major activities include a Guinness World Record attempt in Kenya for planting 24,000 trees in 24 hours by Hillary Kiplagat Kibiwott, 300+ students planting across three schools in Rio de Janeiro, and 1,000 schools participating in climate education and tree-planting activities. EARTHDAY.ORG's Canopy Project is coordinating global reforestation plantings in biodiversity-rich regions. Flagship Earth Day events are confirmed in Philadelphia, Miami, Detroit, Nairobi, Mumbai, New Delhi, and Taipei. The mobilization occurs amid reports that Amazon deforestation has fallen to historic lows for the second consecutive year under Brazil's Lula government, providing a significant policy backdrop to this year's environmental observance.
