Schrödinger Submits Wave Equation
Erwin Schrödinger, inspired by de Broglie's matter-wave hypothesis, submits the first of four papers on 'Quantisierung als Eigenwertproblem' (Quantization as an Eigenvalue Problem) to Annalen der Physik on January 27, 1926. The Schrödinger equation iħ∂ψ/∂t = Ĥψ describes the time evolution of the quantum wave function and reproduces hydrogen energy levels exactly. Wave mechanics provides an intuitive alternative to Heisenberg's matrix mechanics.
