The Vatican's medical bulletin said preoperative tests suggested and intraoperative histological examination confirmed lung adenocarcinoma. It said the surgery was successful with no complications and that Leo regained consciousness normally and returned to a room on Gemelli's 10th floor (the papal apartment there is being renovated). The Vatican did not disclose the stage, whether the cancer had spread, or whether further treatment is needed.
