Pope Leo Enters Gemelli Hospital and Undergoes Lung Surgery

Pope Leo walked into Rome's Gemelli hospital through the main entrance and waved to well-wishers. A team led by chief thoracic surgeon Dr. Stefano Margaritora removed the lower lobe of his right lung using video-assisted surgery, to ensure a radical resection. He was in the operating room about three hours; the operation lasted about 90 minutes.
