Police raid on ONPE chief Corvetto triggers election integrity crisis

| Peru

A day after Peruvian police raided the home of former ONPE (National Office of Electoral Processes) director Piero Corvetto — seizing phones, laptops and documents — the investigation widened to include 12 additional properties linked to former ONPE officials and the legal representative of Gálaga, the company responsible for delivering ballot materials. The probe stemmed from the catastrophic ballot-delivery failures on election day (April 12), which left approximately 63,000 voters in Lima unable to vote. Corvetto had resigned before the raid but denied wrongdoing. The investigations intensified Peru's post-election crisis with first-round results still uncertified two weeks after voting.
