El Chapo Recaptured in Los Mochis, Sinaloa

After six months as a fugitive, El Chapo was recaptured by SEMAR marines in a pre-dawn raid on a safe house in Los Mochis, Sinaloa. Chapo briefly escaped through the sewer system but was captured on a road outside the city. The recapture coincided with publication of Sean Penn's Rolling Stone interview with Chapo; authorities said the Penn/Kate del Castillo meeting had helped locate the fugitive. Questions arose about whether the recapture was staged to enable a politically timed extradition.
