Iguala Mayor José Luis Abarca Arrested in Mexico City

Iguala Mayor José Luis Abarca and his wife María de los Ángeles Pineda Villa — alleged Guerreros Unidos cartel associates — were arrested after being found hiding in Mexico City. Abarca was charged with ordering the municipal police to intercept and hand over the normalista students. The arrests provided the government with its main identified perpetrators.
