African Union Peace and Security Council Delegation Arrives in Khartoum for Three-Day Visit
August 15, 2026 — A delegation from the African Union Peace and Security Council, representing the council's 15 member states and led by Algeria (which holds the council's rotating August presidency), arrived in Khartoum for a three-day visit — its second since Sudan's civil war began and its first held in Khartoum itself rather than the wartime seat of Port Sudan. The delegation was scheduled to meet Sovereignty Council chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Prime Minister Kamil Idris, political parties, and civil society organizations, as the AU seeks to strengthen its engagement on the Sudan file and support an inclusive political process alongside the national dialogue initiative Burhan endorsed the same day.
