Pakistan Monsoon Death Toll Tops 100 as Floods Spread
Pakistan's monsoon-related death toll since June 26 passed 100, reaching 107 killed and 344 injured according to the National Disaster Management Authority, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (55 deaths) and Punjab (46 deaths) the hardest hit provinces. More than half of the fatalities were caused by house or roof collapses. The Federal Emergency Response Committee put departments on high alert ahead of a forecast fresh spell of heavy rain from July 29–August 5; rescuers had carried out 130 operations over the preceding month, evacuating nearly 4,000 people.
