Pakistan Urges UN Security Council to Press India on Indus Waters Treaty

| Pakistan

Pakistan's Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, formally wrote to the UNSC President (Bahrain's Ambassador) on behalf of Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, calling on the Security Council to pressure India to restore the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty. India had suspended the treaty following the April 2025 Pahalgam attack. Pakistan demanded restoration of data-sharing, treaty-mandated cooperation, and an end to what Islamabad termed 'water coercion.' India rejected the appeal, reiterating the treaty remains suspended until Pakistan ends support for terrorism.
