Reports: Egypt's Spy Chief Phoned Netanyahu to Warn of Hamas Attack; Netanyahu Asked UAE Leader to Deny Oct. 7 Warning

Haaretz reported on September 28, 2026 that Egyptian intelligence chief Abbas Kamel personally called Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu days before October 7, 2023 to warn of signs of an impending Hamas assault from Gaza, after two earlier Egyptian warnings went unheeded. Haaretz separately reported, citing sources, that Netanyahu asked UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed during a secret meeting on Sunday to deny a report that the Emirati leader had warned him of an impending attack. The Times of Israel live blog the same day reported that former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar said he will sue Netanyahu over claims he withheld warnings ahead of October 7.
