UN: Israel Approved Nearly 37,000 West Bank Settlement Units in Past 12 Months

A OHCHR report published in late March 2026 documented that Israel had advanced or approved 36,973 West Bank settlement housing units and established 84 new illegal outposts in the preceding 12 months, warning of 'mass forcible transfer' and concerns about ethnic cleansing. East Jerusalem evictions continued: 15 Palestinian households (70 people, including 29 children) were forcibly evicted from Silwan and Batn al-Hawa on March 20, 22, and 25 to allow settler organization Ateret Cohanim to take over the properties. OCHA reported 1,697 Palestinians already displaced in the West Bank during 2026, exceeding all displacements during 2025.
