Kibbutz Nir Oz — ~100 Killed or Taken Hostage

| October 7

Nir Oz, a kibbutz of ~400 residents ~3.5 km from Gaza, suffered the highest per-capita loss of any community in the attack. Approximately 100 residents were killed or taken hostage — 25% of the entire community. Of those, ~79 were taken hostage to Gaza and ~40 were killed. Hamas targeted the kibbutz's communal buildings and safe rooms. The Bibas family — Shiri, Yarden, and their two young children Ariel (4) and Kfir (9 months) — were taken hostage from Nir Oz and became one of the most prominent hostage cases internationally.
