ISWAP Assaults Yobe 27 Brigade HQ and Buni Gari Checkpoint; 50+ Insurgents Killed

ISWAP launched a coordinated attack on the Headquarters of the Nigerian Army's 27 Brigade and the Buni Gari checkpoint in Yobe State on May 9, one day after the assault on FOB Magumeri in Borno, signaling a surge in ISWAP's operational tempo across the northeast. Nigerian troops repelled the assault, killing over 50 insurgents and recovering arms and ammunition; however, two soldiers were killed in the fighting. The back-to-back attacks on military installations represent the most intense ISWAP offensive against fixed army positions in 2026.
