PDF / Anyar Myay Coalition Captures Junta Militia Base in Myaing, Magway — 49 Civilians Rescued from Pyu Saw Htee Control

| Myanmar

People's Defence Force (PDF) fighters and the Anyar Myay Coalition Force on May 26, 2026 seized the Myanmar junta army and Pyu Saw Htee (pro-junta Pyusawti) militia camp at Thayetkan Village, Myaing Township, Magway Region, rescuing 49 civilians — including women and children — who had been held under militia control. Weapons and ammunition were confiscated in the operation. The capture gave resistance forces improved access to key transport routes in Myaing Township. Myaing Township is part of the contested Magway-Sagaing corridor where the junta has conducted intensive multi-front operations in May 2026, including the multi-township Pauk/Saw/Kyaukhtu offensive (May 13-14) and the sustained ground campaign in Kani Township (Sagaing Region). The Pyu Saw Htee are pro-junta civilian militia established by the SAC as a supplement to regular Tatmadaw forces, tasked with village-level surveillance, arrest operations, and counter-insurgency in areas where the military cannot maintain permanent garrisons. Resistance forces have prioritized dismantling Pyu Saw Htee networks across Sagaing and Magway regions because the militias collect intelligence, conduct extrajudicial killings, and facilitate collective punishment of civilian communities in PDF-controlled areas. The rescue of 49 civilians adds to a pattern of resistance forces liberating communities from militia-enforced detention — a practice the junta uses to deprive PDF fighters of civilian support networks. On the following day (May 27), two mine detonations on junta forces retreating from the Thayetkan area killed 2 SAC soldiers and wounded 6 others, reflecting continued resistance follow-on operations in Myaing Township.
