SAC Attacks Kill 7 Civilians, Injure 6, and Destroy 90+ Homes Across Ler Doh, Natthalin, and Hpakant on May 4
Myanmar's military junta killed seven civilians and injured six more while destroying more than 90 homes across three locations on May 4, 2026, according to MoeMaKa CDM News. The attacks occurred in Ler Doh Township (Kayah/Karenni State), Natthalin Township (Bago Region), and the Hpakant area (Kachin State), indicating the breadth of the junta's simultaneous civilian-targeting across multiple regions on a single day. Hpakant has been the site of sustained KIA-junta fighting throughout April-May 2026, including the May 2-4 Shwegu battle; the May 4 Hpakant civilian attacks are consistent with the SAC's pattern of retaliatory collective punishment against civilians in areas of active KIA resistance operations. The 90+ homes destroyed continues the systematic village burning campaign documented across Sagaing, Magway, and now Karenni and Bago regions. MoeMaKa noted these civilian attacks occurred on the same day as World Press Freedom Day events, with 47 journalists remaining in SAC detention as of May 3-4.
