SAC Jets, Mi-35 Helicopters, and Drones Kill 12+ Civilians in Bon Taung Village — Thandaunggyi Township, Karen State
Myanmar's military junta conducted a devastating multi-platform aerial assault on Bon Taung village in Thandaunggyi Township, Karen State on April 24, 2026, deploying at least 3 fighter jets, Mi-35 attack helicopters, armed drones, and 500-pound bombs in the attack. Civilian casualties were severe: at least 12 civilians were killed and over 20 more seriously injured — making Bon Taung one of the deadliest single aerial incidents in Karen State in 2026. Three resistance fighters were among the dead. Schools and homes in the village were destroyed. The attack occurred during a combined assault using all major SAC airpower assets — jets, attack helicopters, and loitering drones — in a pattern consistent with the SAC's 2025-2026 escalation of air attacks on KNU/KNLA-administered Karen State communities. The Bon Taung strike occurred on the same day the junta was staging its '517 resistance surrenders' propaganda ceremony at Mandalay Palace Central Command and the day before China FM Wang Yi arrived in Naypyidaw.
