INE Registry Update: Morena Affiliation Surges to 11.6 Million, PRI Collapses

| MX Politics

The INE's triennial verification of party membership rolls, made public September 1–2, showed Morena's national affiliation rising from 2.3 million to 11.6 million people over three years, while the PRI's rolls collapsed by more than 30 percent to roughly 819,000 and Movimiento Ciudadano's fell as well. The INE separately purged some 581,000 Morena affiliates for registry inconsistencies before certifying the figures. Opposition parties accused Morena of leaning on beneficiaries of federal social programs as 'mecanismos de presión' to pad its rolls, a charge Morena rejected. The update reshapes the resource and organizing base each party carries into 2027's 17 gubernatorial races.
