Ávila Camacho Elected — End of Cardenismo
Manuel Ávila Camacho defeated Juan Andrew Almazán in a contested election that saw unprecedented violence and fraud allegations. Almazán — a conservative general — refused to accept the results and considered a coup but ultimately desisted. The election marked the end of Cárdenas's radical phase and the beginning of a conservative turn that would characterize PRI's subsequent rule.
