First Drone Explosion Near Crocmaz Prompts Ambassador Recall

An unidentified aerial object crashed and exploded on August 9 near the village of Crocmaz in Moldova's Ștefan Vodă district, close to the Ukrainian border, after apparently colliding with a tree at roughly 2.5 metres altitude. Debris recovered by Moldovan police contained components consistent with guided-missile/UAV technology — the first such find on Moldovan territory since Russia's 2022 invasion of Ukraine. Moldova recalled its ambassador to Russia for consultations in response. President Sandu called the incident a direct consequence of the Kremlin's aggression.
