The Cuciurgan (Moldavskaya GRES) power station temporarily switched from gas to coal generation in February 2026 due to gas supply instability, continuing to supply electricity to Transnistrian and Moldovan consumers without interruption. In early March, gas supplies to Transnistria dropped further after disruptions Moldovan and Transnistrian officials linked to the war in the Middle East affecting delivery and payment routes; Moldova's regulator extended Moldovagaz's authority to supply gas to Transnistria through July 1, 2026, with Swiss-based MET Group supplying gas via Moldovagaz and Tiraspoltransgaz since February 2025.
