Sheinbaum said Mexican security forces detected no shots fired from Mexican territory and asked Washington for evidence of an alleged late-September incident in which US Coast Guard personnel were reportedly targeted across from Tamaulipas, which US Ambassador Ronald Johnson cited. Roughly 500 US troops were deployed to the border afterward. Sheinbaum also criticised Johnson for 'overstepping diplomatic norms', saying ambassadors must respect a country's internal political affairs.
