Alleged CJNG Colombia Liaison 'El Mexicano' Captured in Medellín, Wanted by DEA Since 2015

On September 26, 2026, Colombian authorities — the Policía Metropolitana del Valle de Aburrá, the Dirección de Investigación Criminal (Dijín), police intelligence (Dipol), Interpol and the Fiscalía General de la Nación — captured Freddy Chacón, alias 'El Mexicano,' at a luxury residence in Medellín. Colombian officials identified him as an alleged liaison between CJNG and 'La Eme' (the Mexican Mafia) in Colombia, allegedly overseeing a scheme in which the group operated since at least 2022 and moved more than 300 migrants out of Colombia, and allegedly paying $10,000–$15,000 per month to local criminal organizations for territorial protection. He has been sought by the U.S. DEA since 2015 and, according to FBI and U.S. Marshals Service records cited by authorities, has prior convictions for aggravated assault with a firearm, weapons violations and extortive kidnapping. He was placed at the disposal of Colombia's Migration Authority pending a possible extradition process to the United States; computers, phones, hard drives, USB drives and documents were seized at the scene.
