Colima Authorities Capture 'El Baldo,' Alleged CJNG Regional Operator Tied to Rancher Extortion and Prior Killings
On September 6, 2026, Colima's Mesa de Coordinación Estatal para la Construcción de Paz y Seguridad announced the capture of Oswaldo Rafael 'N,' alias 'El Baldo' or 'Baldo,' in Cuauhtémoc municipality, Colima, identifying him as an alleged regional CJNG operator and a priority target considered one of the main generators of violence in the municipality. The operation involved the Mexican Navy's Intelligence and Special Operations Unit (Unopes), the Federal Attorney General's Office (FGR), the Criminal Investigation Agency, and Colima state security and justice authorities. Investigators linked 'El Baldo' to extortion of livestock producers (ganaderos) in Cuauhtémoc and to several prior high-impact crimes: a September 24, 2025 shooting targeting a Colima state prosecutor's office official, the October 2025 killing of a former Cuauhtémoc mayor, and the March 2026 homicide of cattle-association leader Samuel González Rodríguez. Authorities said the capture followed sustained intelligence work and renewed a call for extortion and threat victims to come forward.
