20 More CJNG Members Detained in Coordinated Raids Across Hidalgo, Jalisco and Michoacán — Tigers, Panthers Seized

Security Secretary Omar García Harfuch announced August 24, 2026 that federal forces detained 20 alleged CJNG members in coordinated actions carried out August 21-23 across 36 properties in Hidalgo, Jalisco, and Michoacán — the operation coordinated by SEDENA, SEMAR, the FGR, the National Guard, and SSPC. Seizures included firearms (7 handguns, 3 long guns per some accounts), drugs believed to be fentanyl, methamphetamine, and marijuana, 113 vehicles, a drone and a drone signal inhibitor, cash, and communications equipment. Officials also found tigers, panthers, and other animals and birds held in inadequate captivity conditions at the raided properties; the animals were transferred to the appropriate wildlife authorities. The 20 detainees from Jalisco and Michoacán were flown by Mexican Navy aircraft to Mexico City and placed at the disposal of the FGR, which said it would continue investigations and forensic assessments to determine their legal status. Combined with the 12 detentions from the August 19 'Tío Lako' cell raid in Tanhuato and Ecuandureo, Michoacán, the total reaches 32 alleged CJNG members captured in the span of less than a week. No senior cell leaders were named among the 20 detainees.
