9 CJNG Members Detained in Federal Raid on 'Tío Lako' Cell in Michoacán; Retaliatory Blockades Hit a Dozen Municipalities

| CJNG Crisis

SEDENA-led federal forces carried out a raid on August 19, 2026 in Tinaja de Vargas and Colesio, in the municipalities of Tanhuato and Ecuandureo, Michoacán, targeting a cell tied to Heraclio Guerrero Martínez, alias 'El Tío Lako' — a regional CJNG operator in Michoacán and Jalisco described by authorities as one of El Mencho's most trusted associates, head of the family-based 'Los Guerrero' cell rooted in Tinaja de Vargas, and allegedly responsible for ordering attacks on National Guard personnel after the February 22 Tapalpa operation (his son 'El R-1' died in that same operation but is distinct from the previously captured 'Los Rs' leader Ramón Ángel Álvarez Ayala). Nine people were detained, including Marisol 'N' and Lourdes 'N,' identified as Tío Lako's daughter and romantic partner. Authorities seized 2 properties, more than 60 vehicles (including 1 armored vehicle), a .50-caliber machine gun, 4 mini machine guns, 9 long guns, 1 handgun, 2 grenade launchers, 8 improvised explosive devices, a drone, 7 motorcycles, ammunition, drugs, and tactical gear. No casualties were reported in the operation itself. Within hours, CJNG-aligned gunmen mounted a retaliatory response: by mid-morning at least 11-24 roadblocks (reports vary) had gone up across roughly a dozen Michoacán municipalities — including Zamora, La Piedad, Pátzcuaro, Tzintzuntzan, Churintzio, Purépero, Chilchota, and Jiquilpan — with armed subjects forcing drivers to abandon vehicles that were then set ablaze to block federal highways. No casualties from the blockades were reported. Jalisco's state government reinforced surveillance along its border with Michoacán in response, and Guanajuato also raised its alert level; no blockades were confirmed in either neighboring state.
