U.S. Ambassador Johnson: CJNG's 'International Reach Is Also Its Vulnerability'

| CJNG Crisis

Following the DOJ's August 11 unsealing of narcoterrorism and arms-trafficking charges against four CJNG members arrested in the Czech Republic, U.S. Ambassador to Mexico Ronald Johnson issued an on-record statement to Mexican press on August 12, 2026: 'El alcance internacional del CJNG también es su vulnerabilidad. Estos cargos envían un mensaje claro al CJNG y a otras organizaciones narcoterroristas: dondequiera que operen, los perseguiremos' ('CJNG's international reach is also its vulnerability. These charges send a clear message to CJNG and other narcoterrorist organizations: wherever they operate, we will pursue them'). He added: 'Junto con nuestros socios en México y nuestra red de aliados alrededor del mundo, los encontraremos y haremos que rindan cuentas. No tienen dónde esconderse' ('Together with our partners in Mexico and our network of allies around the world, we will find them and hold them accountable. There is nowhere to hide'). The statement reinforced the messaging from his August 8 X post warning to El 03 and framed the Czech Republic case as evidence of expanding multilateral enforcement reach against the cartel.
